BYF

We had an awesome evening out with our youth last night! We took our group of 27 to Five Guys for supper and then off to see "parental guidance". I highly recommend the movie! It is one for the whole family to see! NO foul language, no nudity....just good clean fun. After that we made our way to cosmic bowling! I had forgotten how young the "young" can actually make me feel. I didn't get sleepy until someone told me it was 11:00pm and then I thought "whoa" way past my bedtime.
What a great way to end the old year, surrounded by young ones so full of life. We all have our crosses to bear.....even the young ones. It's so good to know that these kids and we adults have such a support group to help us carry our crosses.

Psalms 121 1-8 (NKJV)

I will lift up my eyes to the hills- from whence comes my help?
My help comes from The Lord, who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul
The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and forevermore!

Proverbs 3:5-6

New International Version (NIV)

    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,

Rose of Bethlehem- Selah

As the passing of Christmas is upon us; our families go home, we "clean" up the mess, take down the tree, let us not forget that just as Christ was born on earth, He was also sent to die on the cross, and "wear" the thorns for us.  Take the "spirit" of Christmas with you and carry it close to your heart.  Spread the joy and share the love in the upcoming year.  Give of yourself, do something for someone else, visit the elderly and shut in!  Just live so that others can see Jesus in you!

Remember this:

Philippians 4:13

King James Version (KJV)

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Happy birthday Jesus! You truly are the reason for the season🙏❤

What a beautiful service we had today!  Singing birthday praises to our new born king Jesus!  Just a reminder, tomorrow evening is candlelight service at 6pm. Bring a friend and share this one hour to reflect and remember what Christmas is all about. The babe born in a manger, Jesus!  Not the tinsel or the lights. Not finding the perfect tree or cooking the perfect turkey.   Take this time and share it with your family and friends. Tell someone you love them, give them a hug,  do a kind deed for a stranger!   John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him would not perish but have everlasting life. He gave us the ultimate gift. Lets not cast Him aside this Christmas!

Don't forget!

A Baby's Touch
 By Deborah Lynne

During the busyness of this holiday season, my one year old daughter caught a cold that wouldn't seem to let go of her. She had it especially rough at night when she had coughing fits. Being a first time, nervous mom, I brought her to bed with me after a particularly bad cough.

Baby Jesus
As we were drifting to sleep, she wiggled around and her hand fell across my face, brushed my cheek and rested there. I felt as if an electric current was running through my body. Simultaneously, a picture came to mind of a most beautifully wrapped gift -- gold foil with delightful maroon ribbons. I realized that God had just sent a wonderful message and gift to me about the things I should be focusing on this Christmas.  Amidst all the buying, decorating, and entertaining, I was shown through the simple touch of my child the most precious gift of all.

My baby's touch must not be so unlike the touch of another precious child 2000 years ago.  Did his mother feel the same way when his hand brushed against her cheek? His life was to touch the world and affect all of us. Hopefully, with my gentle guidance and love, my baby's touch will affect others as she grows.

We had a wonderful morning of Christmas music and Christian fellowship. If you missed it you missed a blessing!

Libera - While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night

While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.   KJV 2:8

While shepherds watched their flocks by night,
All seated on the ground,
The angel of the Lord came down,
And glory shone around,
And glory shone around.

“Fear not!” said he, for mighty dread
Had seized their troubled mind.
“Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind
To you and all mankind.

“To you, in David’s town, this day
Is born of David’s line
A Savior, who is Christ the Lord,
And this shall be the sign,
And this shall be the sign.

“The heavenly Babe you there shall find
To human view displayed,
All meanly wrapped in swathing bands,
And in a manger laid,
And in a manger laid.”

Thus spake the seraph and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng
Of angels praising God on high,
Who thus addressed their song,
Who thus addressed their song:

“All glory be to God on high,
And to the Earth be peace;
Good will henceforth from heaven to men
Begin and never cease,
Begin and never cease!”

HYMN HISTORY:
Nahum Tate was born in Dublin in 1652, the son of an Irish clergyman. He was educated at Trinity College
and in 1690 was proclaimed to be the Poet Laureate of England for the Court of William and Mary during their
reign from 1689-1702. His intemperate living (as a drunkard and a spendthrift) eventually led to his downfall,
and he died in 1715 at a debtor’s refuge in Southwark, London. Nicholas Brady, another Irishman and Tate’s
personal friend, was educated at both Oxford and Trinity Colleges and later served the Anglican Church at
Cork, England.

“While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks” ranks as one of our most popular Christmas carols and is found in
nearly every Protestant hymnal. Its purely narrative account about the shepherds is on a level that even
children can visualize and understand easily. The music for this carol has been adapted from a work by
master composer George Frederick Handel.

Handel was born in Halle, Germany, on February 23, 1685. After 1713 he made his home in England and
became a naturalized English citizen in 1727. He is best known for his oratorio, The Messiah, composed in
1714 and completed in just twenty-four days. Though Handel wrote several tunes for specific hymn texts, his
best-known hymn tunes, like this one, have been arranged from his major works.

But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he
come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Micah 5:2
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call
his name Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:14
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which
being interpreted is, God with us.
Matthew 1:23
And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world
should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be
taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into
Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the
days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped
him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there
were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the
angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore
afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall
be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this
[shall be] a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And
suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in
the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Luke 2:1-14
